Mexicano vs Americano: Which Format Should You Play?

Both are great for social play, but they serve different purposes. Here's when to use each format.

Americano and Mexicano are the two most popular social play formats in padel and tennis. They look similar on the surface — both involve rotating partners and tracking individual points — but the matchmaking logic is fundamentally different.

Americano: Fair & Social

In Americano, the rotation is predetermined. Every player partners with every other player exactly once. This maximizes social interaction — you get to play with everyone. Best for mixed-level groups where the goal is fun, not competition.

Mexicano: Competitive & Dynamic

In Mexicano, matchups are dynamic. After round 1 (random), future rounds are based on current standings: #1+#4 vs #2+#3. This means the best players face each other, creating tighter, more competitive matches. Best for groups of similar skill level who want intense games.
